As the 2022 Commonwealth Games are approaching, the news has started to come thick and fast. On Tuesday morning, Australia announced that all the CWG sporting events will take place in the state of Victoria. The interesting part is that all the venues will be located outside the capital city of Melbourne. The Games will be held in the four regional hubs. The games will take place in the towns of Geelong, Ballarat, Bendigo and Gippsland. Each town will have its own separate athlete village.
However, the grand opening ceremony will be held inside Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) which has a massive sitting capacity of over 1,00,000 spectators.
This will be the sixth time Australia will be hosting the Commonwealth Games. While it will be the second time the Victorian state will be welcoming CWG. Last time the state of Victoria hosted the Commonwealth Games in 2006 which were centered on Melbourne.

While announcing the big news, state Premier Daniel Andrews praised the Commonwealth Games for embracing their bold and innovative pitch. He also admitted that it was a bit riskier than just running it in the middle of a large city. Andrews also believes that the Commonwealth Games will bring over a $3 billion boost to the Victorian economy.
2018 Australia’s Gold Coast in Queensland was the last game held in an Australian country.
As of today, the state has officially announced 16 sports events including aquatics, Twenty20 cricket and cycling. More games are expected to be announced in the upcoming days.
The Commonwealth Games are held every four years and attract over 4000 athletes from around 54 nations. The countries which were former territories of the British empire are only allowed to participate in the Commonwealth Games.
The Birmingham Commonwealth Games will be held from July 28 to 8th August 2022.
