Working to improve personal best ahead of CWG and Asian Games: Sai Prakash

April 19, 2022 by commonwealthgamesbook Leave a Comment

India’s leading swimmer Sajan Prakash is aiming for the podium finish at the Commonwealth Games and Asian Games. With two back-to-back big-ticket events lined up, Sajan Prakash is aiming to shave off a second from his personal best timing.

Sajan Prakash began his season with the Danish Open where he grabbed the gold medal in the 200m butterfly event.

I’m picking the important meets this year. I will try to peak for the big events which are the CWG and Asian Games. I’ll be tapering for those two events. I’ll take all other meets also seriously. However, the main target is CWG Asian

The Kerala-born swimmer has recorded his personal best at 1:56.48 and is looking to smash this best result during the CWG and Asian Games.

Sajan Prakash wrote a new chapter in Indian swimming. Last year in June, Sajan Prakash became the first swimmer to qualify for the Olympics. The very next day, Srihari Nataraj repeated the feat. The duo traveled to Tokyo for the Olympics but failed to peak during the tournament.

With Commonwealth Games and Asian Games scheduled in a short 28-day period, it’s going to be a tough task to peak twice in such a short time frame.

Why Sajan Prakash Aims to Shave Off 1 Second from Personal Best?

Well, the winning timings registered in the 200m Butterfly event at the Olympics was 1:51.25, while the 2018 CWG and Asian Games were won at 1:54.00 and 1:54.53, respectively.

Whereas Sajan Prakash’s personal best is 1:56.48. Sajan Prakash feels that he needs to shave off at least 1 second in order to think of podium finishes at CWG and Asian Games.

While explaining the importance of 1 second, Sajan said,

Being on the podium is the target for both the events, I need to cut down on 1 sec in the 200m butterfly. Asian Games are really tough. But it depends on the events as well. In my event the Chinese, Japanese and Chinese Taipei swimmers are getting much faster. “The 200 butterfly is going to be faster than any other Asian Games. At the Commonwealth Games, Australia, South Africa, and Great Britain are there.”
