Chirag and Satwik set their aim on Birmingham Commonwealth Games – After creating a history at Thomas Cup, Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy have set their targets on upcoming major international tournaments.

India is one of the favourites to win the Birmingham Commonwealth Games gold. They have been awarded an easy draw which will see Indians sailing into the knockout rounds with ease.

The Chirag-Satwik duo had finished runners up and had settled for a silver medal at Gold Coast in Australia.

The duo thinks that winning the gold medal at Birmingham Commonwealth Games next month would be an ideal start for the next phase of the journey.

Grand Prix Badminton League (GPBL) was launched in Bengaluru. Top badminton stars were in attendance for the launch event. At the event, Chirag Shetty said,

“The CWG is our next target. The CWG is followed by the World Championships. These are the two big events we are focussed on. We can definitely aim for a medal in Paris. The Olympics are about two years away, and that is our long-term goal. We want to enter the top five in the world rankings. This is very much achievable. If we consistently defeat the top pairs in the world, we can definitely do it”

Some historic results in upcoming tournaments from the duo will surely land the World No. 8 pair into the top five which they aim for.

The Chirag-Satwik pair will also benefit from the presence of former World No. 1 Mathias Boe. Boe, who has an Olympic medal to his name, is the doubles coach.

Satwik also commented on recent highs and aimed for more positive results in future. Satwik said,

It’s great to see people recognise us when we go to malls and other places. People have begun to follow badminton closely after the Thomas Cup. We also went to the Prime Minister’s house. That was a great day.

The Commonwealth games 2022 are slated from 28th July to 8th August 2022. The Games will be held in Birmingham, England. The badminton events will take place from 29th July to 8th August 2022.
