Diving at Commonwealth Games 2022: Birmingham is going to witness the individual as well as synchronised divers performing somersaults. There will be 1m and 3m springboard events along with 10m platform events.
The divers perform spectacular twists, turns and somersaults and they are judged by a panel of judges. These judges score each dive and mark the diver based on starting position, the take-off, the flight through the air, and the entry into the water.
The panel of seven judges rate the diver out of ten marks. Each diver performs multiple dives and once the dives are completed, the top two and bottom two are discarded and the remaining three are added together. The score is then multiplied by the dive’s degree of difficulty. The diver with the highest score wins the event and claims the gold medal.
Synchronised diving is conducted in pairs of divers. The synchronisation between that pair is important in this event. A panel of 9 judges rate these divers. Out of 9, three divers rate depending on starting position, the take-off, the flight through the air, and the entry into the water. While the remaining six judges rate the synchronisation between the pairs.
