India handed a easy draw in badminton mixed team event at Commonwealth Games 2022 – The draws for the badminton mixed team event for the Commonwealth Games has been revealed. The Indian team has been handed a pretty easy draw. India have been drawn along with Australia, Sri Lanka and Pakistan in Group 1. India are defending champions and are expected to defend their title at the Birmingham Commonwealth games.
The mixed team badminton event will take place from 29th July to 2nd August 2022. It will be followed by individual events which will be conducted till 8th August 2022.
The Badminton World Federation President Poul-Erik Hoyer commented on the draws. He said,
“The Commonwealth Games have a unique feel. While it features some of badminton’s traditional powers, there are also teams with a more recent badminton tradition, and thus there is a wonderful diversity of styles and approaches to the competition.I wish all the teams competing the best of luck.”
Total 16 teams will be participating in the upcoming Commonwealth Games 2022. These 16 teams are divided into four groups with four teams each. The teams will play round robin matches in their groups and the top two teams of each group will proceed to the knockout stage.
The draw was conducted in Birmingham. In early May, Nigeria withdrew and was replaced by Zambia in the badminton event.

India will face Australia, Sri Lanka and Pakistan in the group matches. These are expected to be easy matches for Indian team and experts predict India will have no issues qualifying the group stage.

Commonwealth Games 2022: Badminton Mixed Team Event Groups
The Indian team is part of Group A along with Australia, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
England, who were winners of the first eight editions of Commonwealth Games, are placed in Group 2 along with Singapore, Mauritius and Barbados.
Five time champions who settled for silver after losing the final against India at Gold Coast 2018, are drawn in Group 4 along with South Africa, Jamaica and Zambia.
Canada, Scotland, Maldives and Uganda are part of Group 3.
The top two teams of each group will qualify for the quarterfinals.
Each game will be best of five with men’s and women’s singles and three doubles events. This will test the overall strength of the team and strongest team will prevail and win the gold medal at CWG 2022.
