Official Commonwealth Games Mascots
In the Commonwealth Games, the countries which were ruled by the British Empire are only allowed to participate. The first Commonwealth Games were held in 1930. Mascots have been part of the Commonwealth Games since 1978. The first mascot was Keyano who was a brown bear during the Edmonton Commonwealth Games. Perry, which is a bull, is an official mascot for Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Commonwealth Games 1970 Edinburgh
The idea of mascot and attempt to create a mascot first took place at 1970 Commonwealth Games. Various drawings were submitted for the Kilted Haggis character. But due to some complaints, the idea of a mascot was dropped and games continued without a mascot.
Commonwealth Games 1974 Christchurch
The 1974 Commonwealth Games were held in Christchurch, New Zealand. The Shiwi, a sheepskin Kiwi was created as a mascot but was not officially named as CWG 1974 mascot. So Shiwi is not recognized as the first official mascot.
Commonwealth Games 1978 Edmonton
Keyano was a brown bear which was first official Commonwealth Games mascot. Keyano is a Swan Hills Grizzly Bear. Keyono is a Cree Indian word which means brotherhood and unity.

The 1982 Commonwealth games were held in Brisbane, Australia. Matilda was the official mascot which was a Kangaroo.

The 1986 Commonwealth Games returned to Edinburgh. Scottie was an official mascot for the Edinburgh Games. Scottie was a Scottish Terrier, which is a popular dog breed.

The name of the 1998 Commonwealth Games mascot was Wira. Wira was an orangutan. Orangutans are great apes found in the rainforests of Indonesia and Malaysia.

Borobi, a blue Koala, was named the official mascot for Gold Coast. The mascot was chosen from a national competition held in Sydney. Over 4000 entries were registered and Borobi was selected.
