New Zealand name strong Squash team –  On Monday, New Zealand announced their squash team players who will travel to Birmingham to represent Kiwis at the Commonwealth Games. The squad includes world number one Paul Coll and defending CWG singles and doubles champion Joelle King.  

This will be the fourth Commonwealth Games appearance for Joelle King. King participated in Delhi for the first time when she was 21. King won three medals at Gold Coast 2018 Games. 

One getting picked for New Zealand, King expressed herself. She said,

At my first one at age 21 in Delhi, if you had told me then I would be going to my fourth games in Birmingham I would have laughed, but you know here I am 33 years young. I’m hoping to have another huge games for squash and I’m excited to be part of this team. We’ve got the three of us who have been there before and some youngsters coming through which is exciting to see them experience it for the first time. I’m looking forward to pulling the silver fern over my chest once again.

Paul Coll will be appearing in his third Commonwealth Games. Coll has won silver medal in men’s singles and bronze medal in mixed doubles with King at Gold Coast. Coll trains in Birmingham with his coach and refers to Birmingham as his second home. So conditions are expected to suit the world number one.

Amanda Landers-Murphy is also set to represent New Zealand for the third time at the Commonwealth Games. She will be pairing up with King for women’s doubles. The pair had grabbed the gold medal at Gold Coast 2018.

The team of brothers, Lwamba Chileshe and Temwa Chileshe have been included in the team. They will represent New Zealand in the men’s doubles.  

Another two names Kaitlyn Watts and Abbie Palmer have been included in the New Zealand squash team. After getting selected, Watts expressed her happiness,

It’s great to be selected in my first New Zealand team and I can’t wait to get to Birmingham and start competing in my first Commonwealth Games

Glen Wilson, with all his experience will coach the New Zealand team for the Commonwealth Games. Wilson also head coached New Zealand at 2018 Gold Coast. 

With inclusion of these seven players, a total 72 players as of today will be officially travelling to Birmingham.
